Not all insurance policies are the same and at Thistle we understand that every home is unique. We offer both buildings and contents insurance cover, as well as some additional extras including personal possessions outside of the home, pedal cycles and more.

What is Covered?

Buildings and Contents

  • Buildings Sum Insured – up to £500,000
  • Alternative accommodation – up to 20% of the buildings and contents sum insured for a maximum period of 12 months
  • Trace and Access for escape of water oil – up to £1,000
  • Accidental Damage to fixed glass, sanitary fixtures and ceramic hobs included as standard
  • Replacement of locks and keys – up to £750
  • Increased metered water changes – up to £2,000
  • Contents Sum Insured – up to £75,000
  • Valuables in the home – up to 33% of the contents sum insured with a maximum single item limit of up to 10% of the contents sum insured
  • Money cover up to £750 and credit cards up to £1,000
  • Deep Freezer Contents – up to £500
  • Automatic increase in contents sum insured for weddings, birthdays and Christmas, up to a maximum of £3,000

Legal

  • Legal liability to the public – up to £2,000,000
  • Legal liability to Domestic Employees – up to £10,000,000
What Isn't Covered?
Buildings and Contents
  • Loss or damage that occurs when the building is unoccupied for more than 30 days
  • Loss or damage caused by: radioactive contamination, war, terrorism, wear and tear or any gradual deterioration, domestic pets, insects or vermin
  • Loss or damage to domestic fixed fuel, oil tanks, swimming pools, tennis courts, drives, patios and terraces, walls, gates and fences, unless the main building is damaged at the same time
  • Loss or damage caused by mechanical or electrical breakdown
  • The first £1,000 of any claim for subsidence
  • Storm or flood damage to gates, hedges, fences or swimming pool covers
  • Any criminal or deliberate act by you or your family as well as theft or malicious damage caused lawfully by someone on the premises

Personal Possessions

  • Loss or damage caused by theft or attempted them from an unattended motor vehicle, unless locked and out of sight
  • Loss or damage to sports equipment when it is being used
  • Loss or damage to contact lenses

AD Extensions

  • Damage due to wear and tear, wet or dry rot or damage caused by chewing, scratching, tearing or fouling by domestic animals or pets

Pedal Cycle

  • Cuts, bursts or punctures to tyres
  • Theft away from home unless securely locked to an immovable object

Home Emergency

  • Any claims which are due to the lack of maintenance or wear and tear
  • Claims where our approved contractor advises that the system fails to meet minimum safety requirements

Legal Expenses

  • Where the amount being claimed is less than £100
  • There must be a 51% or greater chance that you will recover losses or damages (or obtain any other legal remedy that the claims handler have agreed to, including an enforcement of judgement), make successful defence or make a successful appeal or defence of any appeal in your pursuit of civil proceedings or criminal proceedings.
Additional Covers
You can choose to add any of the following additional covers to your policy:
  • Accidental damage to Buildings and/or Contents
  • Personal Possessions outside your home up to 30 days anywhere in the world
  • Pedal cycles outside your home up to 30 days, anywhere in the world
  • Assistance with emergency events in your home, up to a claim limit of £4,000
  • Legal expenses protection up to a limit of £100,000 for any one claim
